Thrust-Blocking PVC PipeThrust-Blocking PVC, Thrust Block, Thrust-Block, Thrust Blocking

  • Water under pressure exerts thrust forces in piping systems at:  changes in pipe size or direction, dead ends and valves.
  • The design of thrust-blocking requires knowledge of the thrust generated and the bearing strength of the soil against which the thrust block will be placed.
  • To be effective, a thrust block must:
    • be placed against undisturbed or fully compacted earth.
    • contact the fitting over a sufficiently large area so as not to create stress points on the fitting.
    • have sufficient area on the soil to restrain the thrust without exceeding the bearing strength of the soil.
  • Supply line 3″ in diameter and larger shall receive concrete thrust blocks.  Please research specifications for amount of concrete to be used for thrust block.

This elbow provides a 90 degree change of direction on PVC pipe.  Includes gaskets.
